How to Read Music

Most of the sheet music you will find outside of this book will not have letters written inside the note heads.

For example:
Here is a simple method to help you work out the names of the notes.
Step 1
Is the note on a line or in a space?
If it’s on a line, use the lines rule.
If the note is in a space, use the spaces rule.

This note is on a line, so we use the Lines Rule.
Count upwards from the bottom line:
The word Boy, begins with a B, so the note is B.
This note is in a space, so we use the Spaces Rule.
Spell FACE, starting in the lowest space.
The note is in the C space, so it is a C.
